We broke a record up here in Alaska. The previous record was 28. What is the record, you may ask? It's not something to be proud of, that's for sure.
Today marks 31 days in a row of rain. Yes, rain. While everyone else is complaining about the heat and lack of rain, imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning and see nothing but gray and wetness for a whole month. Granted the rain has not been going on for every hour of these past 31 days but when in that sparse moment when it stops, it's still cloudy, nasty, and cold.
I have heard people talk about how hot they are and how much a nice rain will cool everything off. Let me tell you... I think I've seen the sun and blue skies for a total of 6 hours this entire summer. Seeing constant gray can really do a number on the psyche. I feel lazy and depressed all the time and the kids have constant cabin fever. All I want to do is get the hell out of here and it has to be out of Alaska, not just a weekend getaway. In fact, I need the sun so badly that I don't even want to visit Pittsburgh. Maybe if I go to a doctor and tell him my symptoms, he can prescribe the beach and my insurance would cover the cost for a trip to Hawaii. You think it would work??

You, in Alaska, need the sun like I, in Arizona, needed water. My entire life was thirsty after spending 2 years in AZ. Granted, we did have "monsoon season" where we got a lot of rain, but it still didn't turn things green and pretty. It was still cactus, sage brush and dirt. So I hear you. I get it. I will cheer with you when you get out of the rain and are able to have normal sunshine.
Hate to disappoint, Barbara, but when we lived in Hawaii, they had a spell where they had forty straight days of torrential rain (unlike the normal pretty rain that we were used to that started and stopped quickly). We all joked around that it was time to build an ark. AND, apparently, Arizona is getting a extra rainy monsoon season (Suzanne- there is a LOT of green here). I think it's us. Everywhere we seem to be stationed they get more moisture than usual.....Virginia- snow, GA- had a pretty rainy season when we were first there (I complained about the raininess too).....OR maybe it's you AND me....hmmmmm. Wishing warm sunny days for ya. =)
