Ten Years of Loyal Service

I can't believe I've been married for 10 years. I can't believe I've put up with someone this long. Better yet, I can't believe someone has put up with me. It's been an extreme rollarcoaster ride to say the least. I think we've gone through in 10 years what most couples go through in 20. Separations, relocations, cancer, kids, laughter, screaming matches..... You name it, we've done it.

Getting married at 19 probably wasn't the best idea but I couldn't imagine not being with this man. Jason is my total opposite and his calm demeanor offsets my tendency to flip out over the least little thing. He was willing to marry me and help carry all the baggage that is my life. I used to wonder why in the world he chose me and why he puts up with my less-than-loving-wife behavior. My question was answered about 18 months after we got married.

Jorden was about a month old and we had a particularly rough night with her. Because I'm not one that accepts help easily, I was the one the stayed up most of the night. The next day Jason and I were sitting in the oncologist's office, waiting. I was baby tired, chemo tired, and just plain miserable. I don't know what started it but Jason started pretending his thumb was a puppet and it made me chuckle. Then he found a pen and drew a face on not only his thumb, but his other fingers too. By the time the doctor came in we were both in hysterics.

He chose me because I take care of his children and I laugh at his stupid jokes (most of the time). I'm sure there are other reasons but at that moment I realized, "Yeah. I'm good." So happy anniversary, Jason. Thank you for sticking it out and putting up with me. You got 10 years of my life and I plan on giving you many, many more.
