I Hardly Knew You But I'll Never Forget You

http://www.jber.army.mil/aw/2010/100716/Story3.htm

We first heard about this accident on the evening news the day it happened. The report showed pictures of the scene: glass shattered on the road, the SUV teetering on the embankment, and traffic backed up for miles. However, this wasn't an ordinary accident.

The next morning Jason awakens me and he's visibly upset. The victim was Spc. McDonald. He was a cook and one of Jason's soldiers. And it wasn't until this morning that I actually thought about what happened. You see, the interchange where McDonald was killed is the interchange that I use when I go to church. I got off at the exit, looked at the hillside and just felt an overwhelming sadness to the point where I was fighting off tears. I didn't personally know McDonald and I had only talked to him once. I guess it was because Jason had a close tie to him and maybe in some weird way I was channeling his grief. All I know is that I won't be able to drive on that particular section of highway without thinking of someone I hardly knew.

It's interesting how things that may usually seem removed from us personally can end up touching our lives forever. I've had similar experiences. I'm so sorry to hear about McDonald and pray for his family and friends.
