There is a running joke in my Sunday School class and I'm the butt of it. But I don't mind because it really is kind of funny.
I have this thing where I can't sit in between people. I have claustrophobia and sitting smushed between people is not a good place for me to be. So when I sit anywhere, it's always on the end. Whether it be a row of chairs, a booth in a restaurant, or a semicircle, it's always on the end unless I'm by myself. Then I have no problem with sitting in the middle.
At the last two churches I've been to, during class I've always sat on the end of the table or semicircle of chairs. But the weird thing is that spot always happens to be on the left of the instructor. I don't know why that is. It's just the spot that I happen to plop down at.
So it didn't take long for Pastor Jeff to notice that my same spot every week was on the end of the semicircle, directly to his left. In fact, one Sunday we had some past members visiting our class and they are sitting at the end of the semicircle in what normally would be my spot. I walk in and Jeff says, "See, I told you not to sit there. Now she doesn't know what to do." I smiled and saw there was an empty seat next to them, on the end. I kindly move the Bibles and papers aside (which I thought were theirs) and go to sit down. Again Jeff notices and jokingly says "So you move my stuff so you can STILL sit on my left??" *insert class laughter here*
Later on the evening we had our first care group. I was one of the first to sit down, picking a comfy spot on the couch (on the end). Sure enough, after everyone else sits down, guess where I am: Off to Jeff's immediate left (who is instructing the class). Then last night during care group, I sit down to which Jeff immediately gets up from his spot across the rooom and moves over to me so I would be on his left. *more class laughter here*
Maybe it's because I have OCD or maybe I'm just strange. I don't know why I need to be someone's left-hand man. And honestly I wasn't aware of it until now. But it's still funny.
