I haven't blogged in quite some time and I would like to get back into the swing of it. But as you can imagine life around here has gotten different.
Jason has been home for just over a month now. And I look back at the past year and compare it with now and I wonder if it ever even happened. It's very weird but we're not quite back into the swing of things. I'm still trying to get used to having another adult in the house. I'm still doing the brunt of all the housework and errand running. I'm trying to let go of some of that by telling myself that I don't have to do that anymore. It's a hard thing to do when I have this nagging thought in the back of my head that he's going to leave again.
Jason is different too. Before I couldn't get him to leave the house to do something fun. But now he's all about it. He'll go sled riding with us or take Chase out to ride his bike. When the kids went to respite care, he even suggested that he and I have a date night whereas before we would've just sat at home and did nothing. I'm not complaining though. It's just weird seeing Jason with this new "family" attitude.
As for the kids, I'd say nothing has changed except one little detail. I can no longer say, "Daddy's going to work." Over the past year, when asked where Daddy was, both Jason and I would say that he's "at work". But when I told Jorden that he had to go to work she said, "Does he have to get on a plane again?" So now we just say that Daddy "had to go to the office".
Awhile back when Jason first left for deployment I posted about getting used to the new normal. Now that he's back, I guess I have to get used to the "new new normal".
