Crunch Time

The week leading up to vacation is always a bit hectic around here but this year it seems to be more so. We'll be gone for about 3 weeks instead of the normal two (Jason has a ton of leave and wanted and extended vacation) so there's much more to do.

We've made arrangements with friends of ours to come by the house once a day and check on things. We've made sure the cats have plenty of food and bags to clean the litter boxes. Unfortunately, they will not be allowed outside while we're gone so more than likely we will come home to a few revengful hairballs.

I'm making sure the house is neat and tidy before we go. Who wants to come home to a dirty house? Not me! Today I'm going to get to the hallway and living room. Last night while cleaning Jorden's room we had a tragic accident. Jason was cleaning her fish tank and her beloved goldfish, Golfie, died when he jumped out of the net and into the sink filled with soapy water. She was heartbroken. We had that fish for about 2 years. We had been talking about getting her a 10 gallon tank with tropical fish anyway so I guess now's our chance to do just that.

The car got a major overhaul to be ready for the drive. New tires were put on (thank goodness for credit cards!) and it was inspected and cleaned out with a fresh oil change. Next we'll be vacuuming out the crumbs and taking some Armor-all to the interior. I know it sounds silly to do this because it's just going to get messy again on the road but I don't want to travel in a rolling garbage dump.

The most daunting task I have before we leave is trying to finish all my school work for the week. I'm trying my best and I should have it all done by Saturday (we leave on Sunday). I'm worried most about next week. It's the last week of classes and I have a big final exam and a research paper due. The internet connection at my inlaw's house really sucks so I think I'll be invading a relative's house to do my work. I've also made arrangement with the school to have my next round of books sent to my mom's house because we'll be there when the next session starts.

Now that I've had my little break, I'm off to cross out more items on my to-do list. Although it won't be that easy: Chase has come down with a cold and is extremely cranky right now.
