About a week ago Jason hit a milestone. He re-enlisted for the last time. This enlistment will take him right up to retirement. I don't know if he'll stay in after 20 years. That all depends on what rank he is at that point.
Speaking of rank, he has a big decision to make. Based on points and the surplus of E-6s, it's highly unlikely that he will see promotion if he remains a cook. So the only way he can get a promotion is if he re classes. He's not sure what he wants but he's thinking about something in internal affairs. What he's looking for foremost is promotability. And he just won't have that if he remains a cook.
I try not to influence Jason when it comes to his career. I've learned over the years that what I want doesn't really matter, the Army has the final say. So if he chooses to re class, I'll support him. But depending on the school, we would have to move at least two more times. I'm not sure I want to put the kids through that. But as long as it gets us away from here, I can deal. It's nothing definite--just something to think about.

I met a lady who's husband is a cook....signed up three years ago, because that was the biggest bonus. Never makes sense to me that the Army offers big bonuses then leaves people hanging with promotions. Good luck on whatever the adventure. =)
