Scary Stuff

I have this thing with temper tantrums. I refuse to put up with them. I will listen to my children when there's a problem but the second they start whining and screaming and all that other stuff it only makes me more angry and that's not fun for anyone. Unfortunately I was blessed with the tantrum champ.

Yesterday after hearing Chase scream and carry on for the umpteenth time I'd had enough and put his little booty in timeout. Well that only made him more mad. As I was setting the timer, he flung himself off his bed and at first I'm thinking, "If you got hurt, that'll teach ya not to do that" but he wasn't making any noise. I rolled him over to see him turning blue. He had knocked the wind out of him and was trying to cry but couldn't. So for about 30 seconds (which was an eternity) I watched him turn a deeper shade of blue and all I could do was rub his back and tell him to calm down. He managed to start breathing again and was totally fine although I couldn't say the same for me.

Needless to say, that was the end of that timeout.

While I'm glad he safe, I hope that HE learned a lesson about temper tantrums. It's quite possible that this event scared him enough that he doesn't throw another one...but hey, it's also a weapon in YOUR arsenal: "Chase, remember what happened the LAST time you had a tantrum? Calm down so you don't do that again!".

God was with you on this one!
