Going Under

I already posted this on my facebook but this is for those who don't have FB.

I almost lost my son today. By lost I mean in terms of forever. He came very close to losing his life and all I could do was watch.

The kids were having their swim lessons today and while they were busy with that, I was swimming laps. I didn't see exactly what happened but I looked over to see a lifeguard pull a small child out of the water. Now as I saw this, everything seemed to process in my brain very slowly: First I saw the lifeguard. I noticed she was coming out of the water as if she took a swim herself. Then I saw the instructor swim over. Then I saw Spongebob swim trunks. I thought, "Hey, Chase has Spongebob swim trunks. Wait, that's MY child!" It seemed like this all took few minutes but it was really seconds. Everything really did seem to be moving in slow motion.

I climbed out of the pool (scraping my knee in the process) and I heard a loud *smack*. When Chase was pulled out, he was conscience but wasn't breathing. So the lifeguard smacked him on the back, he coughed out some water, then started crying.

He is absolutely fine. Chase was back in the water five minutes later. I asked Jorden what happened and she said he slipped on the steps of the kiddie pool. So he's not traumatized, no worse for wear. Me on the other hand, that's a different story. I came home and when the kids weren't looking, I cried. I think any parent would. And there isn't enough I could do to show my gratitude for the lifeguard who saved my baby boy.

I know from experience exactly how scary that can be. You had the blessing of being in a supervised place with lifeguards. I almost lost my son 1 1/2 years ago. We went to the church baptism, and the kids were swimming in the pool afterward. My daughter called me for something, and I turned to her...I heard a splash, and turned just in time to see my son being carried out by a man who had just been baptized that day. God put him there for a reason. Amen...glad Chase is safe...sorry you hurt yourself, but in the end, God was with all of you.
