I read this article this morning that just made me absolutely sick. It really hit close to home because the boy in the article could very well have been Jorden in her old school. It reminded me all to well of how she was treated. Please read it and join in my outrage.
The article is about 5 year old Alex Barton.

You're right, this is HORRID.
My daughter had 2 special needs kids in her class. While I am not 100% sure, they both seemed to be autistic, probably Asperger's kids. They did both have a paraprofessional with them at all times.
When I first met one boy, I could only go on things my daughter had said (he's gross, he coughs everywhere and doesn't cover his mouth, etc). But when I saw him, I KNEW that she needed to learn compassion. We are blessed that we have a good friend whose son is also autistic, and I could use him to explain to my daughter, "you know how K's brother J is different and has autism? And how sometimes he does things that just don't seem right for his age? Well, you know that is because his autism prevents him from learning things the way we do. It will take him longer, and he might never really learn it, but we have to accept him and help him when we can"...and I used that with the J in her class...and she took it to heart. She told some of her friends to stop picking on J because he was "artistic", lol...and she then explained why he was different.
My child has some great compassion in her! (except when it comes to her little brother, of course).
The teacher should have used that as a TEACHING tool for compassion, instead of allowing the other kids to tear him down. That poor boy is entitled to an education too...and they've now ruined it for him.
I definitely join you in the outrage! Unbelievable. That teacher should absolutely be fired, and have her credential revoked. Especially the fact that it was a kindergarten class. Hello!! How could anyone be so mean, how could anyone think that was okay??
