A Heavy Price to Pay

Today I had no choice but to do something that just absolutely broke my heart. I had to put the Student Services Team at Jorden's school on notice that any evaluations will have to be finished by the end of the year because Jorden will not be returning. We have to pull her out of her wonderful school and put her in the piece-of-garbage school that's in our district. Why? Well we simply just can't afford the gas anymore. Here's the breakdown:

13 miles to school one way
26 miles round trip
twice a day=52 miles EVERY DAY

That's not including any other driving that I may have to do during the day. I brought this up to Jason but instead of discussing it like an adult, he does what he always does and looks for evidence to prove me wrong because after all, I'm always wrong and he's always right. And he wonders why I always just shut down during an arguement.

Why do I hate this school so much? Jorden went there for pre-k. It was a nightmare. The school was not willing to get the help she needed (not even speech therapy) all because of simple laziness. Instead they labeled her a trouble-maker and I had to fight like hell to keep her from getting kicked from the program. The school also runs on the traditional calendar so instead of being home for 4 weeks, she'll be home for 3 months with no one to play with and nothing to do.

There aren't enough words to describe how much I HATE, HATE, HATE having to do this. But Jason isn't willing to sacrifice anything to solve the problem (because he's right and I'm wrong) so everyone else has to go without. In this case, Jorden has to go without the help she desperately needs. So Jorden has to pay with her education just so Jason can go buy more crap he doesn't need.

Gads, I am sorry to hear that. My son was just screened for early intervention and they've decided he needs speech therapy (which I already knew and was the reason I wanted him to be evaluated). I've got him into one of two great preschool programs for next fall...and they really work well with the kids and work with the parents for their IEP's and to keep them where they need to be. It's enough for a parent to have to admit they can't "fix" their child, but when we have to settle for less than the best, it's hard. Do they not offer you transportation to that school? I thought that if a child needed any special education and the local school could/would not provide it, then the district was responsible for the bussing.

I have to say I am blessed with a hubby who understands things like this. He'd gladly give up most everything (including some of MY things, lol) in order to advocate for our children.

Perhaps if you start selling off his things? Tell him that your daughter's education and very LIFE are much more important than an xbox, iPod, flat screen, (or whatever else is causing the strife). Or tell him that he needs to trade in his car for a more economical one so that you can use it to drive your daughter to school...

I'll be in prayer about this one. I'm a strong advocate of childhood education....you need to advocate for your child, before anyone (or anything)
