Have you ever looked at your husband and thought to yourself, "You are a complete tool!"? I had one of those moments on Sunday night. Actually, the thought I had was, "I so want a divorce!" Here's what happened:
We are in the process of getting the house ready for sale. First thing that needed done was retiling the kitchen floor. It was only a small portion--fifteen 8x8 tiles to be exact, so it really wasn't a big job. Jason didn't know the best way to do it so I suggested we call his buddy James. James had recently tiled his bathroom so he knew what to do.
So James came over with all his tiling supplies and the two got to work. They laid down this tile glue stuff first, then used spacers to put down the tile, and after about an hour they put down the grout. All that was left was to sand it even and spray some grout sealant to keep the stuff from coming up (the previous owners didn't use the glue stuff or the sealant so that explains why we lost tiles in the first place). Simple enough job, right? Well, Mr. I-Have-A-Better-Way-Even-If-Bob-Vila-Tells-Me-Otherwise decided we needed more work.
Before the sealant was put on, Jason decides that he doesn't like the job that was done. The original grout was gray but the new stuff was white and he didn't like the two colors. He goes out and re grouts THE ENTIRE FLOOR in the gray stuff (our kitchen is huge!). And he wasn't neat about it either. He just glops the stuff all over the place. Then it comes time to sand it and put the sealant on. Well Mr. Genius discovers that the new stuff didn't quite come off as easy as the other stuff. So both of us are in the kitchen, scraping each individual tile to get the grout off. Why did I help? Because the realtor was coming the next day to look at the house! We were up until 1:30am doing non-stop scraping, scrubbing, and mopping. The floor still looks like crap but there's no wooden bare spot anymore.
And he still didn't put the sealant on and guess what? The grout is coming back up. I'm going to scream!!!
