I'm learning that having a ADHD 7 year old and a rambunctious 2 year old is a combination that will drive anyone to drink heavily. My days are quite full yelling, screaming, threatening bodily harm, and timeouts that don't seem to work. We go through all this just so Jorden and Chase will leave each other alone for 5 minutes!
One place I absolutely can't stand the chaos is behind the wheel. It drives me absolutely mad when they are carrying on in the back seat. Every single morning is the same thing:
Chase does a typical two year old thing (like puts his fingers up his nose)
Jorden sees it and yells at him to stop (because she can't mind her own business)
Chase realizes he now has her attention (even if it wasn't intentional)
Chase starts egging her on by repeatedly putting his fingers up his nose
Jorden starts playfully slapping his hands away (because she can't keep her hands to herself)
Chase starts playfully slapping back
Soon one wants the other to stop
Neither one can take "no" for an answer
One continues while the other starts screaming
Both kids become irritated at each other and start screaming
The whole time I'm screaming and reaching back to smack the both of them while trying to drive
By the time we get to school I'm so stressed and mad that I can't stand the sight of either one of them
This is EVERY SINGLE DAY! It's even worse when I pick Jorden up from school because they haven't seen each other for 8 hours. So today I had enough. Chase is now in the backseat while Jorden rides in the front. Don't worry, folks! We have a weight sensor in the front seat and Jorden isn't heavy enough to activate the passenger side air bag.
I know the safest place for the kids to be is in the backseat but really, which is more dangerous--having Jorden in the front seat or me heavily distracted by kids that don't know when to quit? Jorden rode in the front on the way home and the drive was calm, serene, and quiet (except for Spongebob playing in the backseat).
Now if only I could keep them separated like this at home.....

My kids are exactly the same! I hate hate hate it. We are fortunate to have a van, so two back seats is how I keep them separated. Now we just have to deal with them fighting over whose turn it is to sit in the front back seat. We have a system, they just take turns. But then of course they have to argue about who actually sat there last time...on and on. Add that to the fact that Chandler hates going anywhere. Tell him we're going to Walmart or Costco and that is just asking for a meltdown.
So yeah, I know exactly what you mean! =S
You're doing what is best for YOU...a distracted driver is a DANGEROUS driver!!! And Jorden's not gonna set off the airbag, so she's safe....
Like Suzanne, I have a van...I'm sure that eventually, one will be in the 3rd row and the other will be in the 2nd...
Isn't it horrible when a minivan just isn't big enough for your family of five? All three of my kids go so crazy sometimes that I start to think of something a little bigger like a bus. Jamie even has his license for one.....*Sigh* Someday, the kids will get along in the car.....right? ;-)
