Random Thought of the Day

Lately I've just been having these random, off-the-wall thoughts that keep popping in my head for no apparent reason. And since I'm tired of blogging about the same ol' things, I thought I would share them in hopes that others will get random, off-the-wall thoughts too.

After reading Linda's blog about how much she hates the military health care system (don't we all!), a random thought came in my head: Did you ever notice that when you call a civilian doctor for an appointment, they don't need to know the exact details of why you need to see the doctor? But when you make an appointment at a MTF they need to know EVERYTHING and that can be quite embarrassing. Especially when it's something of an extremely personal nature. And the more you try not to be embarrassed about it the more embarrassed you get!

For example, a friend of mine needed to schedule an appointment because she was feeling some discomfort "down there". The appointment clerk wouldn't schedule the appointment unless she told the exact reason why she needed to see her doctor. So in order to maintain some level of discretion, she told the clerk (who was a man) that she had that "not-so-fresh-feeling". He got the message and gave her the appointment.

*snigger*...not so fresh feeling!!! Ha!

I once made an appointment for my daughter when her "girly bits" were itching (that whole, she's a girl and won't wipe the right way thing). I was asked why, and told them she had a rash...they needed to know where.

I was so mad, I just said, "she's got an itchy cootie! you wanna scratch it?" and hung up! I went to the store and got some OTC cream and have NEVER brought her in for that problem.

The reason they need to know it all is so that the appointment person can triage you, and decide, based on a list in front of them, if your symptoms warrant a same day, same week, or NEVER appointment, lol! (remember, that appointment line person is SO not trained to triage....)

Thanks for the link and the giggle!
