A Happy Hubby

I discovered the way to have an extremely happy husband: by letting him have some new toys now and then. But recently Jason got two new toys in the past couple months. And they are things that he's always wanted so he's more giddy than the days the kids were born (although he says that's not true!). So anyway, on to toy number 1:

A 2006 Nissan Frontier. He's always wanted a truck and the deal was that he would get one when our XTerra was paid off. But after getting hit with this whole Alaska thing and having much debate about whether or not his car would even survive the climate (it was pretty old and beat up), we received a flyer in the mail from a Nissan dealer advertising some tempting prices. We took a look and ended up getting a fantastic deal on the trade-in and truck. I'm not thrilled about having two car payments but as long as we tighten up our already tight budget, we can make it work. And the added bonus for him: it's a stick so I can't drive it!

Toy number 2:

It's really sad to see a grown man beg. So imagine watching one beg for 8 years. I'm not a big fan of guns, mostly because of the area in which I grew up. So I told Jason that he can get a pistol when he made E7 because there was almost no likelihood of that happening. Finally I said that when we had some extra cash he could get one but it was not going to be a priority. Turns out, he had been stashing away his birthday and odd-job money and had enough to buy his pistol. He has it in a safe place and he's shown me how to use it. If I can barely cock it back, the kids sure won't be able to. They don't even know we have it. Bottom line: I know this can be dangerous but if I didn't trust Jason's judgement and that he would be a responsible gun owner, this would not be in the house.

So Jason's been walking around with a big smile on his face. He drove all around Fayetteville the day after he got his truck and even came to visit us at church (that goes to show he's happy!). Unfortunately he hasn't been able to make it to the range but I know he's itching to. But anyway, I'm happy that he's happy. Maybe now I can get some things that I want!
