A Little Cook

I think Chase has picked up on his dad's culinary skill. I was in the garage yesterday and I came in the house to find Chase making himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Let me paint the picture for you:

Chase is at the counter, standing on a chair. He has one piece of bread in front of him with a heaping mound of jelly applied on one half. He is now in the process of speading the peanut butter on the other half with a steak knife. To get a more accurate picture, keep in mind that when making Chase a sandwich, I only use one piece of bread and fold it in half.

I'm seeing this and expecting a huge mess but surprisingly I didn't. I told him he did a great job and I said I'd finish up while he washed his hands. I scrape of some of the jelly, finish spreading the peanut butter (with a butter knife) and hand him his culinary masterpiece while I clean up the little spots of jelly left on the counter. I was impressed.

that's GREAT! Although, I'd gently tell him that he needed to use a butter knife the next time.

My kids have NO interest in making their own meals...they expect to be waited on hand and foot. My daughter's about to learn how to be involved in the kitchen, though. We've always had minutely tiny kitchens and being the only one there in there was necessity...but now we have a big space, so she needs to get in there. I'll wait a bit for my son though...
