We knew it would be tough for a couple weeks while Chase got used to his bed. Naturally he kept climbing in and out. The only way we could get him to stay in bed was if one of us sat in his room, by the door, and waited. He wouldn't dare come out of his bed if we were right there!
Naptime has become something unique. When the time comes, Chase will climb in his bed while either Jason or I will lie down on the floor at the end of his bed. He can't really see us there but he knows that we're around, so he won't get out. And it's not too bad sleeping on the floor. I made a makeshift bed out of a pile of stuffed animals so it's actually quite comfy! Bedtime is a bit easier. We don't have to stay in his room anymore. We just have to go in his room about 5 or 6 times and remind him that it's time for bed.
Now his sleeping shenanigans have taken on an interesting twist. For the past week or so, Chase will get up and wander around the house in the middle of the night. He doesn't want anything nor is he scared. He just does it because he can. He'll come into our bedroom, whisper "Hi Mommy!" to which after I've been startled awake because someone has been staring at me, and then I carry him back to his room. This goes on about 2 or 3 times, then I have to lay on our "animal bed" in order to keep the little stinker in his room.
I haven't minded that Chase is doing this because in the end, we both get some sleep and when he does wander, he'll sleep in a bit longer the next morning. But Jorden will be going back to school on Monday so I can't be sleeping in his room because I may miss my alarm going off. I just may have to put that child lock back on his doorknob so the wanderer can be contained.

I remember Jacob not staying in his bed either...at that time we were moving and he was in a port-a-crib, which he could climb out of. So we moved it into a completely empty room and put the childproof doorknob thing on the inside of the room. He so hated it! He could climb out of that crib but not back in, so he ended up on the floor a couple of times. But he did get it pretty quick! I'm glad, because it's one of those things I had to do but I HATED doing it! Good luck.
Put the doorknob thing on and pray he doesn't figure out how to break out of it.(It's for his own safety if it makes you feel better. My friend had a wanderer....she drew on the tv, computer screen and helped herself to candy in an upper cabinet in ONE night.) I used to have to lock Ky's door WITH the doorknob thing on to keep her in, but she has discovered how to break out of that, too (Josh doesn't know how to do that or at least can't fit his finger in the hole very well.) Now, we babygate the upstairs and when she enters our room we tell her to go back to bed. We don't get up or she'll play her little game for life. She has on occasion slept with us without our knowledge though. =)
